An good shopping trip for the expected baby is fun, but one can be too easily tempted  to buy unnecessary things for the baby. Everyone wants the best for the baby, the safest and sweetest baby items. But babies do not need as much as you think, and some items you should even avoid.

Extravagant crib accessories should be avoided because they are not necessarily safe. It is recommended that pillows, bumper pads, blankets and stuffed animals are removed that from the crib, everything that is too soft. In the first months of life the baby is at risk that his face gets under the soft objects in the crib during sleep and the baby is not getting enough oxygen.

When buying clothes for the baby, it is important that they are comfortable. There are lots of expensive clothing items that are actually uncomfortable for the baby. A newborn baby requires comfortable clothing that does not sit too tight and has no elastics. Clothes should be made of cotton, so the skin can breathe. Cotton is in contrast to many synthetic materials soft on the sensitive baby skin.

In my opinion, a changing table and a warmer for the baby wipes are a waste of money. When you change the baby's diaper, it is usually easier to spread a blanket or other soft, washable pad on the floor, the bed or a dresser. The bed or the floor is the safest place to change the baby when the baby begins to roll. The wipes warmer can extract the moisture out of the baby wipes. The normal room temperature is  sufficiently warm.

A baby scale is another unnecessary device. The periodic reviews of the weight gain with the pediatrician are sufficient in most cases.

It is equally unnecessary to have special baby detergent for baby clothes. The main difference to "normal" detergent is the smell. If the baby shows an allergic reaction when wearing the clothes, you can still search for alternatives or wash their clothes in very little soap or just hot water.
